The Visual Arts program is an exciting and vibrant part of the College, as well as an essential part of a well-rounded education. Creativity and design are critical to assist students develop their ability to problem solve and be creative thinkers. Students develop skills in investigation and experimentation with a range of materials, techniques, processes and concepts.
Students in years 7 and 8 are taught Visual Arts as a compulsory part of their studies and students explore a wide range of mediums and materials, including painting, drawing, printmaking, design, ceramics and sculptural practice.
The elective stream at years 9 and 10 provide students with the opportunity to study the following specialist subjects, each of which has a strong focus on contemporary practices, and work towards preparing our students with the stills, techniques and knowledge required for VCE:
- Visual Arts
- Media
- Visual Communication Design
- Visual Communication Design Architecture
As a Faculty we have a strong commitment to guiding and encouraging all students to fully immerse themselves in the creative process and continually challenge themselves in a safe and respectful environment. This is achieved both through classroom teaching and the extensive extra curricula activities they can involve themselves in, such as:

- Kingston City Arts Blitz
- SIS Art + Technology Exhibition
- CEM Visual Arts Exhibition
- Local and national art + design competitions
- Social Justice initiatives
Regular student exhibitions, curated by the College Arts Leaders and assisted by the junior Art Crew, form an important part of the Visual Arts curriculum and students are provided with many opportunities for their work to be seen beyond the classroom.
