The Science program at St James College is built around three principles.

The first is to actively engage the boys in the study of science. This is done by integrating the theoretical studies with relevant experiments and a variety of practical activities, excursions and discussions.

The second is to relate the work to the actual applications of science in our society. So much of our lifestyle is now dominated by the products of science that we feel it is vitally important that the students understand how their world works from a scientific perspective.

The third is to help those young men wanting to go on to a scientific career to develop
the high level skills and knowledge that they will need to pursue that dream.

Students with an interest in Science are given the opportunity to study Advance Science as an elective subject in Years 9 and 10. Students are challenged to extend their knowledge of in various areas of science and build upon knowledge from mainstream class.
