Mission Action Day

On the 12th August 2016, the young men of St James College participated in Mission Action Day, our annual walkathon to raise money and awareness for La Salle Technical College (LTC) in Hohola, Papua New Guinea.

LTC is unlike any other school in Papua New Guinea. It allows students who live in disadvantaged areas to continue their secondary education, despite not receiving any government funding. At LTC students learn skills such as metal works and ICT, which will help them in their future endeavours.

Like us, LTC is also a Lasallian school that teaches students the values of St John Baptist De La Salle. St. James College raises the necessary funds to support the school, allowing LTC's doors to remain open.

Every year, St James College raises around $20,000 to help the students of Hohola to have a better education and safer learning conditions. In previous years, St James College funds enabled LTC to purchase a school bus which enabled students to attend school in a safer manner. Our fundraising has also contributed to various other learning and sporting resources for students to use. Last year' efforts assisted with the building of a shower block for LTC's recently completed hall. This year, our target is to once again raise $20,000. On behalf of the De La Salle Brothers and the LTC community, we ask students to raise a minimum of $30, but in order to reach our $20,000 target, we urge students to raise beyond this requirement.

We would like to thank students and their families for their efforts and contributions to the walkathon so far. In particular, the Butta family and Harrison Young (Year 8) for donating items which can be used as prizes to reward students who raise large amounts of money. We would also like to thank Golf Victoria for their donation of a walkathon prize.

We are also still seeking further donations. If you know of somebody who can assist, please contact Mr Francis Cormick or Mr Billy Natsioulas at St James College on 9575 8100.
