Lasallian Public Speaking

The Lasallian Public Speaking competition was a fantastic night out. Speakers from Years 7-12 spoke from St James College, St Bede's College and De La Salle College. We spoke on our own prepared topic but we also had to do an impromptu speech on a topic given to us with 5 minutes preparation.

The Year 7s and 8s spoke for 3 minutes on their prepared topic and 1 minute on their impromptu, Year 9s and 10s spoke for 4 minutes prepared and 1.5 minutes unprepared and the Year 11s and 12s spoke for 5 minutes on their prepared topic and 2 minutes on an unprepared topic.

Everyone, myself included, was really nervous but also really excited to listen to great speeches on some really interesting topics. The standard of speeches was really high for all year levels with a great diversity of topics on offer. Kingston Toast Masters judged the evening and we are very grateful for that as it was no easy feat because it was a very competitive night.

Mr Vlamakis was MC for the evening and did a great job putting everyone at ease and interspersing speaking with relaxed commentary.

We are thrilled to note that Matthew Watson (Year 10) was the best speaker for his level and also the best speaker of the evening.
