2016 Premiers

Touch Rugby ran in Term 3 and was introduced for the first time to Year 9 and 10 students as a SIS competition. Ms Payne was the coach and Mr Brown was our assistant coach.

Our first match was at home and we played St. John's College Dandenong. I thought we all played well, considering most of our team had never played touch rugby before and we managed to defeat St John’s 9-3.

The second match we played was away in Beaconsfield against St Francis Xavier Beaconsfield and we were able to get our second win on the board with the score 9-3. Special mention to Mr Brown, who had to step in as umpire for the game due to a miscommunication.

Our third game we could not play because of walkathon. The week after we played Padua Mornington, I thought Padua was the hardest team we played this term and our boys kept turning the ball over, but we put in the fight and came on top the scores St James 4-2 Padua.

Our fourth game was against Berwick Grammar where we were meant to play at their home ground, however their field was not functional and we played at Centenary park. Berwick Grammar were our toughest opposition as it was raining and windy the entire game, which led to many dropped balls and unforced errors. Though the conditions were challenging we ended up winning by 1 try, the scores were 5-4 to St James.

The last game we played was the grand final and we say that because we hadn't lost a game and it was our last game for the season. The team we played were St Francis Xavier Officer and we were able to win quite comfortably, getting our largest winning margin to 7 tries, defeating St Francis 9-2.
Every person in the team played a significant part in becoming S.I.S Touch Rugby Champions this season and their encouragement and sportsmanship to each other is to be acknowledged. As being the captain of the team and play rugby, I was very impressed by the skill level of the boys and very happy that we came up on top victorious and undefeated. We celebrated as a team with a pizza lunch to reflect on our successful first season.

Thank you to both our coaches for all their time and support given to us over the term.
